Don't Let Your Bladder Keep You From Exercising | Tennessee Valley Urology Center
We are all guilty of making excuses when it comes to getting in our 30 minutes of exercise a day. However, one excuse that can hold some ground is bladder leakage—but not anymore!
Our team at Tennessee Valley Urology Center wants to share some tips about how you can get in your workout for the day without having the fear of bladder leakage during your exercise routine.
Now Is Not the Time to Quit!
No matter what your workout routine involves, bladder leakage should no longer be an excuse not to get it in! While small leaks can happen to any of us, it doesn’t mean that you can no longer work out. Rather, you just need to get a workout strategy in place in order to better control your bladder while conquering your workout.
First, you might want to consider what you are wearing when working out. If you are living with incontinence, you might want to stick to loose-fitting, dark-colored clothing, especially if you are wanting to also wear an incontinence pad.
Second, while you want to make sure you are staying hydrated while exercising, you want to make sure you are choosing the right beverages to do so. For instance, drinking sodas, coffee and other caffeinated beverages before a workout can lead to leaks, which is not what you want. Instead, stay hydrated by sticking to water!
Finally, don’t forget to add Kegel exercises into your routine. Kegel exercises are extremely helpful in building strength in your bladder muscles, which can help to reduce your risk of leakage.
Start by doing Kegel exercises eight to 10 times a day three times a week! You should be able to notice an improvement within a few months.
However, if you don’t see improvement after four months, make an appointment with us to make sure nothing else is going on with your bladder health.
We are still here for you! Give the team at Tennessee Valley Urology Center a call to schedule an appointment and to learn what protocols we have set in place at this time to keep patients and team members safe.
