How To Drink More Water This Summer | Tennessee Valley Urology Center
Summer in Tennessee is hot! It’s so important to stay hydrated with plenty of water. Proper hydration helps protect you from urinary tract infections and kidney stones, and it’s especially important for anyone with diabetes. Almost everyone should aim to drink more water this summer. We know how upping your water intake can be a challenge, that’s why Tennessee Valley Urology Center has put together some tips to help make it easier.
Always carry a reusable water bottle with you.
Keeping a water bottle within arms-reach will help you drink more water without even thinking about it.
Use an app.
Consider using a mobile app to track your water intake and set up reminders throughout the day.
Drink a glass of herbal tea every night. It’s a nice habit that will add an extra cup of fluid to your day, and it will also help you relax.
Eat plenty of water-rich foods.
A whole-foods diet with lots of vegetables, fruits, and yogurt will also help increase your fluid intake.
Jazz up your water.
Many people find plain water too bland–are you one of them? There are plenty of ways to make it more palatable.
Keep a pitcher of water in the fridge with sliced cucumbers, herbs, lemons, oranges, or strawberries to add flavor without artificial flavors or sweeteners. Try these healthy recipes!
Try making your own fruit and herb ice cubes to add a hint of flavor to every cup of water you drink.
Experiment with various iced herbal teas. You might like hibiscus, which is naturally sweet.
Have you tried sparkling water? If you’re trying to wean yourself off soda, this might be a good swap for you. Choose unsweetened sparkling flavored waters like La Croix, Perrier, Spindrift, or Polar.
If you find out that you enjoy the sparkling water, you can invest in a SodaStream to make your own flavored water with bubbles.
