Spring Into Better Bladder Health | Tennessee Valley Urology Center

Now that warmer days are moving in, many people in Cleveland might be ready to start improving their health.

One aspect of your health you might not have considered? Your bladder health. That’s why our team at Tennessee Valley Urology Center wants to share some insight.

Let’s take a look at some ways spring-cleaning your habits can affect your bladder health for the better!

Drink Up

Especially now that the temperatures are warming up, it is important to drink enough water throughout the day. There’s no one-size-fits-all rule for how much water you need to drink. Instead, sip water continuously throughout the day, not just when you’re thirsty.

When you drink water, you are helping to reduce your risk of kidney disease. Therefore, if you are guilty of grabbing a soda over water, make sure to try drinking water most of the time.

Get to and Maintain a Healthy Weight

It is important to maintain a healthy weight not only for your bladder health, but for your overall health, too.

To get to a healthy weight, you’ll want to exercise regularly and eat a balanced diet filled with fresh fruits and vegetables.

Get Moving

Experts recommend that most adults get at least 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week.

Exercise can help prevent bladder problems and constipation, so it’s important to get a workout in every day, even if it is just a simple walk around the neighborhood.

In addition to walking, try to perform pelvic floor exercises, also known as Kegel exercises, to help build a strong pelvic floor, which can help prevent urine from leaking when you sneeze or cough.

Go When You Need to Go

When you feel the need to use the restroom, try to find a restroom as soon as possible. While there are moments we need to hold it, it is better to use the restroom when you need to in order to prevent bladder problems like a urinary tract infection.
